Dr. Tam Spat is a primary care physician in the state of Arizona; he has worked in the medical field since 1987. Prior to becoming a Naturopathic Physician, he worked as a Respiratory Therapist in a variety of hospital settings, including adult, pediatric and neonatal intensive care units, in addition to emergency room, trauma center, burn unit and urgent care.

Dr. Spat received his BS degree with a major in Respiratory Therapy and minor in Chemistry from Loma Linda University, and his Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences in Tempe, Arizona (one of the nation’s four accredited naturopathic medical schools). During his clinical rotations at Southwest College, Dr. Spat was trained in three separate types of medicine: natural medicine, conventional medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine.  He received additional advance training in acupuncture at Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture. Dr. Spat's comprehensive education and training allows him to consider every opportunity for healing, and provides assurance that serious health conditions do not go unnoticed or are misdiagnosed.

In addition to holistic healthcare for the whole family, Dr. Spat specializes in natural therapies for gastrointestinal disease such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome disease. and treatment for Insomnia, Chronic migraine headache, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. He has provided treatment for patients with acute and chronic disease, and he has worked with patients to create custom programs in Pain Management, Allergy Treatment, Detoxification, Weight Loss, Memory Enhancement, Smoking Cessation Wellness, and Nutritional Counseling.

Dr. Spat’s background is an interesting story.  He immigrated to the Unites States from Vietnam at an early age, and lived in central Florida and southern California.  Since his parents worked for the U.S. State Dept., he spent most of his teenage life traveling overseas to Latin America, and the Middle East where he experienced different cultures and customs. After graduating from Loma Linda University in 1987, he became a Respiratory Therapist and worked in the profession for many years, receiving numerous Outstanding Award’s. Then, in 1995 he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.  After brain surgery, his doctors recommended radiation and chemotherapy treatment. He declined and instead pursued naturopathic alternatives to treat his symptoms.  As a result of his experience, he decided to go back to college and become a naturopathic Physician.  Presently he is doing well without recurrence of the tumor.

Dr. Spat is Board Licensed in Naturopathic Medicine in Washington D.C., and the states of Vermont and Arizona. He is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), the Arizona Naturopathic Medical Association (AZNMA), the American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM), and the Naturopathic Physicians Board of Aesthetic Medicine (NPBAM)

With Dr. Spat’s diverse medical and ethnic background, he will provide each patient with individualized and personalized care.
